Staff changed my appointment time (texted me to see if I could come later – and I didn’t see the text but they went ahead and changed my time anyway) – and when I arrived at the time I had scheduled it for they made me wait until the time they had changed it to. For a redone office space it is disgusting that there are no sinks in the patient rooms – especially the ones being used for gyn exams. I’m a physician – and this grossed me out. I saw Dr Esposito who skipped important parts of the gyn exam and when I brought up health concerns multiple times during the exam she completely ignored them. I will now have to go see another gyn to have a proper yearly check up and will have to pay out of pocket because I’ve used up my free one with this lousy experience that didn’t meet the standard of care. I’ve been very dissatisfied with Oscar as a whole – they charge a tremendous amount for very little care – and this further reinforced that they are not interested in patients.

The center is easy and most staff are great. Sadly not the doctor I saw !!

Completely antiquated viewpoint regarding patient care, followed by misinformation and sheer incompetence. Dr. Surti is one of the many, many doctors in this country who are responsible for our backwards health care system, or sick-care. Literally refused basic blood work I wanted to assess need for preventative care as it’s apparently her point of view that patients need to be sick and be sympotamic before doing anything for their health. Completely inane. Should really be fired.

Oscar has got a very pathetic and poor customer service. It let me to remain on hold with Oscar ” Concierge” for more than 23 minutes. Then it suggests me and says for faster and professional services, I must sign into my Hi Oscar account. Well…. I was unable to sign in that’s why I called the team. If that was the scenario, why would I have called them. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. I suggest not buying any plan from Oscar.

ZERO STARS!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I am constantly trying to get in touch with their so called very professional “Concierge Team” and every time it lets me on hold for more than 20 minutes then prompts a message that our team is currently unavailable. Even going through and getting in contact through their app, mostly I have to wait for 1-3 business days for a genuine response! I will be searching for a better alternative soon!

Thoroughly unimpressive. I checked in at the front desk for my scheduled appointment and explained my situation only to be told – rudely and without much of an explanation – in the operating room that my requested medical treatment could not be completed for “legal reasons”. I can deal with a lack of competence OR a lack of compassion, but both is a bit much. No amount of yoga or light-filled waiting area can ameliorate managerial incompetence.

I would give them zero stars if possible! They have a concierge team of customer service which includes people that have no knowledge and clue about any medications or illnesses. If they are the only possible insurance company you can get, then I might suggest that you better skip it and work with your doctors and hospitals in traditional manner! They are amongst the worst health care companies in the world. I am a critically ill patient and they believe that I am dropping them and terminating them in 2020 so here it is Dec 2019 and they are claiming that I cannot get any service or treatments what so ever from this criminal excuse of a company. Please do not buy or choose this company! They are criminals and they do not have any interest in your critical condition. It is the company who is earning in the name of health services.

I had many medical issues for over last 10 years and I have had 4 different types of medical insurance. Oscar has been, by far, the best of them all. Yes, there are just a few claims for resolution of which I have to directly call the company. Yes, some doctors are not very professional in their approach and sometimes I believe that do not belong to Oscar. However, the customer service is tremendously good. The coverage is very unique and good. Oscar is doing miracles and wonders considering its other competitors in providing health care services and benefits.

If you are a userof the Oscar app, this policy works amazingly well! Dr. on call is a lifesaver feature! Customer service is wonderful with a very professional insurance agent as well. I really wanted to like and support Oscar. I specifically switched from a pathetic service out of my way andI chose Oscar. Sincethen, they were very professional in their approach and it was one of the only health insurances that was accepted by my OBGYN. When I got pregnant and I took a year off from work, so it was Oscar who was helping us by paying health care out of pocket. I had just given birth to my baby and I am spending hours on my smartphone trying to figure out the ways of how I could cover my new born baby. Just yesterday, while I wasstill in the hospital, I received a call from a very humble Oscar rep asking why I’m still in the hospital, did I know I was situated at an out-of-network hospital, etc. I pretty much lost my mind as I confirmed all these details very briefly before purchasing Oscar health insurance. A few hours later, the same person called back to apologize me for the inconvenience caused by him, just kidding they totally messed up as they didn’t realize the fact that all the hospitals have different names and are in network for them after all. Such a terrible nightmare sort of situation, communication clearly seemed not to be streamlined, which is very unprofessional approach.

Oscar Insurance does not cover anything. I have paid thousands in premiums and have gotten nothing in return. I just got a letter from Oscar saying that my Appendectomy was not medically necessary and they are not paying my hospital bill. The only reason I have health insurance is to cover medical emergencies. I struggle to pay their outrageous premiums every month, for nothing. Oscar is the biggest rip off ever. I am telling everyone that I know to save them from wasting their money on Oscar’s useless “insurance”. Don’t buy Oscar! Save your money and your sanity!

The phone number listed on the Oscar website directly forwards to a third-party insurance broker company. The broker, Lighthouse, tried to sell insurance plans that were even not from Oscar company. Instead, the agent wasted my 45 minutes on phone telling me details of another health care provider, which I’ve never heard of and has no web presence or any sort ofreviews. When I told the agent that I was not interested in getting any kind of insurance he was telling me about, he abruptly ended the call which was so rude. This reflects poor customer service of Oscar and it seems like it is a Scam.

Worst insurance company I have ever gone through in my entire life. Without any prior notification, they ended my son’s plan about 5 months ago.The past weekend my son got into a horrible accident and he needed intense medical assistance. When I tried to contact the company, they claimed that he was not even in the system. I regularly pay every month for the whole family and now they charged me extra money because they took my son out of the plan without my consent and any prior notice. The team of Reber has created a prediction model based on how often people obtained those services using purchased Medicare data and Oscar use assertions data. Then they were able to know where people were living, where physicians were and what programs they offered They recognized the physicians able to maximize their system.

This is mostly the end of hard data science. Kopko left and negotiated after checking the specialities, the sites and the availability of the doctors. Over 5,000 contracts were signed by his team during the fall. On 1 January 2017 Oscar started its optimized network.

Dealing in Data

His members somehow knew what they had registered for, less doctors, less hospitals. But Oscar never exactly announced how the network had been put together. It didn’t know if it was going to work.

Yet Oscar has reason to be optimistic 5 months after his great experiment. Two percent of health insurance premiums in 2016 goes out of the system with its large leased system. The out – of-network expenses of Oscar last year were down to0,6%. And its share in the market in New York was strong— around 20% of patients. The vast majority of people, rather than just Oscars, are healthy individuals; and the frightening incidents of health which need specialists to visit are uncommon. Health researchers claim that it is too early to call it a victory How will the network continue over time as fate addresses an unpredictable array of health problems to Oscar’s members.

I actually tried to enroll online, but the system was so buggy that it kept locking me out.  Finally, after receiving multiple “oops” messages, website was trying to be cute– I called the phone number.  I found the agents to be extremely rude and unknowledgeable (far worse than what I experienced at the more “traditional” insurance companies).  I was hoping Oscar offered a better alternative (as advertised) but it looks very similar to (maybe inferior to) the health insurers I have done business with in the past.  Also, their network looks positively tiny. All the glitzy advertising aside, this appears to be the same old same old.  I’ll pass.  Would hate to have to deal with these folks in a health emergency.

On the positive side: they answer the phone fairly quickly, it’s easy to pay bills online, and you can talk to a 24-hour mediocre on-call doctor. And they’re less expensive than Blue Shield.

On the negative side: it’s excruciating to actually get them to pay their claims! On two occasions, I had to file both internal and external 3rd party appeals to get them to pay. I ended up paying out of pocket because the medical providers threatened to go to collections agencies. I was eventually reimbursed after about a year. These were for things like routine blood tests (CBC, etc., ) performed at an annual physical. They really put you through the ringer to pay the claims.

They used to cover the UCLA Hospitals, and the doctors were fantastic. Unfortunately, they are not including the UCLA Hospital system for 2020

I would give them zero stars if possible! They offer a concierge team of customer service people that have no clue about medications or illnesses. If they are the only insurance you can get skip it and work with your doctors and hospitals! They are the worst healthcare company in the world. To be clear, I am talking about Oscar health insurance plan from the NJ health marketplace. I have been with the Oscar classic bronze plan for almost 2 years

Pros:
1) can talk to doctors over the phone for simple questions
2) website customer service is very responsive

Cons:
1) Many doctors do not take Oscar insurance plan
2) Some doctors, even if they take Oscar (plan from employer), they do not take Oscar through the health marketplace
3) Using Oscar website tool to find doctors is very frustrating: first of all, many doctors shown actually do not take Oscar plans; secondly the information database may not be up to date
4) Even if you log in their website to find doctors, the system still gives you doctors not within your plan network. An example, Oscar plans from NJ marketplace do not apply to NY doctors but the system just gives you that kind of crap information
5) Very high deductible: almost impossible to reach only if you have a serious conditions
6) My kid took a eye exam and Oscar was only paying $30 out of $160 that OD asked for; ridiculous

If I could give this company  negative infinity (as in Calculus -oo)  I would.

I had Oscar Health insurance  for 2 months in 2018 through Covered California.  While insured with Oscar,  I was traveling for work in Mesa, AZ and became ill from eating contaminated food. It was the worst case of vomiting and diarrhea I have ever experienced.  I was at a hotel in Mesa and I had to call 911 because I could not stop vomiting and pooping.   I vomited and pooped so much that everything was coming out yellow — the color of bile — because my stomach and digestive tract were fully voided with all of the vomiting and diarrhea.

The paramedics took me to Banner Desert Hospital Emergency Room.  I was totally out of it, and did not present my medical insurance card.  I stayed overnight  in the ER, received IV fluids, and the ER doctor said that while they could not find out what I ate that made me ill, it was definitely food poisoning.  I was discharged the next day, and I slept for 24 hours straight in the hotel, got up enough energy to take the first flight back home to L.A.

When I got home, Banner Hospital sent a $4,000 bill for the ER visit.  I submitted claims to Oscar, which they NEVER paid. Apparently, Banner Health in AZ is not in Oscars network (some network), and Banner would not accept Oscar’s negotiated rates.  The killer is that Oscar kept sending me fake EOBs (explanation of benefits) which showed a phony adjusted rate — as if Banner Health had already agreed to charge less than the $4,000 for the ER visit.  Banner Health NEVER agreed to negotiate their ER rates with Oscar.

Guess who was stuck in the middle of this mess?  Yours truly– the patient — who was stuck with a $4,000 bill hanging over my head like a guillotine.   Oscar and Banner Health fought for 8 months over the bill.  I had to file a complaint with the California Department of Managed Care. And guess what?   My head got chopped off because now I am stuck paying the bill.

Who has $4,000 to throw at medical bills?  1%?? As a card-carrying member of the “99%” I did not then, and do not now, have that kind of cash lying around for medical bills, which is beside the point, because,  hello,  I HAD INSURANCE!!  Oscar Health Insurance!!  And Oscar paid $0 for this claim.

Oscar Health Insurance is another tech SCAM.

Two months later, I got laid off which was a qualifying event for Covered California,  so I was able to switch plans to Blue Shield.  I have never been so happy to be laid off in my life —  just so that I could flee from Oscar Health as fast as possible!  I signed up for Blue Shield which isn’t perfect, but at least they have a track record and they PAY THEIR CLAIMS.

When you pick a company with no track record and no history of providing quality and reliable health coverage, even if their premiums appear cheaper, it goes back to that old saying:  if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Oscar Health is not a medical insurance company:  Oscar Health is just another tech platform (Like Uber, Lyft, etc) providing a customer-facing cute platform (like Uber and Lyft) which gives millennials the warm and fuzzies.  Do you want your health and well being treated like an Uber or Lyft ride?

All 7 Oscar Board members come from Big Tech — not one M.D. or anyone with a medical degree on the board.  That should tell you all you need to know.

I really wanted to like and support Oscar. I specifically went out of my way in choosing Oscar since they were one of the only health insurances accepted by my OBGYN. I was pregnant and took a year off work so we were paying health care out of pocket. I had just given birth and spent hours on the phone trying to figure out how I could cover my new baby. A day later, while still in the hospital, I get a call from an Oscar rep asking why I’m in the hospital, did I know I’m was at an out-of-network hospital, etc. I pretty much lost it as I confirmed all these details before purchasing Oscar insurance. A few hours later, the same rep called back to apologize, just kidding they messed up as they didn’t realize all the hospitals have different names and are in network after all. Such terrible oversight, communication clearly not streamlined.

Oscar Insurance does not cover anything.  I have paid thousands in premiums and have gotten nothing in return.  I just got a letter from Oscar saying that my Appendectomy was not medically necessary and they are not paying my hospital bill.  The only reason I have health insurance is to cover medical emergencies.  I struggle to pay their outrageous premiums every month, for nothing.  Oscar is the biggest rip off ever.  I am telling everyone that I know to save them from wasting their money on Oscar’s useless “insurance”.  Don’t buy Oscar!  Save your money and your sanity!

The phone number listed directly on the Oscar website goes to a third party insurance broker.  The broker, Lighthouse, tried to cross-sell health insurance that is not even from Oscar.   Instead, the agent spent 45 mins on the details of another healthcare provider, called Ensurian?, which I’ve never heard of and has no web presence or reviews.  When I told the agent that I was not interested in getting that random insurance, he abruptly ended​ our call.  This reflects poorly on Oscar and is a huge red flag.

Worst insurance company I have known. Without notification they took out my son of the plan 5 month ago. The past weekend my son had an incident and needed medical assistance, when trying to use the insurance, he wasn’t in the system.
